Bears for Cares Author Lotus Kay Meets Dr. Jane Goodall!

Lotus was thrilled to get to meet Dr. Jane Goodall after Jane’s event at the Beacon Theater in New York City in April (commemorating her 90th birthday!)  A few years ago, Jane had written a nice note to Lotus about her books (which are part of Jane’s Roots & Shoots youth program), saying she hoped they would get to meet one day.

In the accompanying photo, Jane holds up Lotus’s book Jenny the Chimpanzee, which was inspired by Dr. Goodall’s pioneering work on chimpanzees, and features quotes from Jane. A portion of the proceeds from the book are donated to the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots & Shoots program.

As Lotus wrote on her Instagram page:

Happy 90th birthday Jane Goodall! It was so nice seeing her speak and getting to meet her. As some of you may know, my book series was done as a Roots & Shoots project, and books like Jenny the Chimpanzee about humans interconnectedness with chimpanzees, the animal world, and all of nature, I wrote inspired by and dedicated to Jane, and I share her story and her quotes in the back pages. As well as a portion of the proceeds of all my books go to the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots program.

I received a kind letter from Jane after she read my books, and she said she hoped we could meet someday: I’m glad we finally did and held hands.❤️
